Matt’s biggest lesson learnt

In our webinar with digital transformation specialist, Matt McCormack from Cognizant, I asked him: What was your biggest lesson learnt from participating in multiple organisational disruptions? He responded by saying the operating model is important and that no-one has got this right.

“it’s a key indicator of failure, they haven’t envisioned what the future state will look like. Why is that important? Well, because you’re fundamentally going to re-design your labour force. If you start with the technology, you’re going to find you’ve got the wrong people in the wrong roles and you’ll never create those experiences with your customers that you thought about. So, getting that operating model upfront is important.”

You can watch his reply below:

What is organisational design?

Organisational Design is one pillar of the Enterprise Business Agility (EBA) model, called Org Structure & Design. Basically, it’s having the right people in the right roles for the technology to work efficiently. Putting the design of the organisation ahead of the tools that the organisation will use. Understanding how the vision statement for the organisation can determine where the roles should be and then how the people in those roles will use them.

It’s like building a race car before you know what championship you’re going to race in.
